I always found in fascinating how musicians go about making music - whether that's rapping/singing of making music.
I was watching the Juan Ep Is Life podcast with Cipha Sounds and Rosenberg with recent guest Ghostface.
They're going through bunch of tracks that Ghost either did or was featured one, discussing how they came about and the history. It's a fun watch.
At one point he discusses on it's the music that takes the artist in a direction. He hears a beat and the beat determines the lyrics and the way he goes. It might sound pretty typical but it's cool to hear it from an great rap artists like Ghostface.
A lot of times, it be the beat that takes you there and we don't come in with no pre-written rhymes. It just be the beat that'll take you there.

A lot of times music producers just make beats and go from there. They work on a drum pattern or chord pattern, or maybe start with a melody and whatever comes out of that is it
It's not wrong and works super well.
But one way music producers and beat makers can think about their craft is with the emotion. Do you want to create a sad beat? Happy? Introspective?
Use the emotion as a cue and go from there. Not saying that is the way to do it, but it can be one way to approach music production.
