studio notes 004 // mighty drum machine for beatmakers

Mighty Drum Machine Some exciting news, I’m almost ready to launch my beat making app, Mighty Drum Machine. It’s a drum sequencer that will be loaded up with all the patterns from the MIDI packs.

V1 will be straightforward, typically functionality plus a few useful features. But over time will be adding features that’ll make it a standout.

I’m super excited for this, I’ve been wanting to build a drum machine for the longest. And now I get to do it.

Mighty Drum Machine is made for beatmakers focused on feelings not frequencies. And speaking of beatmakers.

JB

I’m a sports head, basketball is probably my second love after music. And I follow the Celtics so was shocked (sort of) when they traded Jaylen Brown.

JB reminds me of beatmakers vs audio engineers.

Stats will show when JB is on the court, generally the Celtics do worse. Some say this why he was traded.

The eye test says something different. That dude can hoop. Arguably the best player on the team (yes over Tatum). And sometimes it’s undeniable like when he won Finals MVP or just being in the running for MVP this past year.

It’s like beatmakers who make beats that sound great. But audio engineers chime in with their hertz and frequencies arguments. The ear test doesn’t lie, if it sounds good, it sounds good. And yes there is something where the data can help make it better. Just like the stats may help JB identify areas of his game to improve.

But you don’t lead with the stats. You lead with ear test and use the stats to modify. But honestly it really boils down to the eye/ear test.

JB can hoop and if a beat sounds good, it’s good. We don’t need numbers to tell us otherwise.

She Got Talent

Came across this video and this little girl absolutely crushes it. Love to see this energy poured into classics.
