MIDI Drum Mapping
GM Mapping
GM mapping is the standardization of MIDI notes to make sure MIDI works consistently across a number of devices.
What that means is: if you plug you MIDI keyboard in your Mac and open up Logic and press a key that plays a kick drum, plugging that keyboard in a PC and opening up FL Studio and pressing the same key will play a kick drum.
GM Mapping for MIDI Mighty Products
All of our MIDI packs follow GM Mapping. What that means is all our kicks are the same note. All our snares are the same note. You won't get files with random notes you have to figure out.
A slight deviation
GM Mapping the concept is great. However, some of the mapping hasn't been updated to reflect current times. So occasionally we have to deviate a bit. In that case, we generally follow how Apple Logic does their mapping (they deviate a bit as well). More below:
MIDI mapping keys and notes for Drums and Percussion
Each MIDI note represents a different drum sound. Here's the General MIDI (GM) mapping for each drum sound.
For reference, Apple Logic Pro's mapping in Drum Machine Designer when you open an Empty Drum Kit.
For the most part they are the same, but there are some general differences, particularly when it comes to some of the percussion.
